Waukee is one of the fastest-growing communities in the state -- no surprise given its supply of affordable homes (median home prices well below $200,000) and a school district known for excellent extracurricular programs.

The town recently committed to $50 million in new development projects, including an expansion of a major road corridor and renovations to several areas downtown. --H.L.
