Attracted by a strong local economy and low taxes, some 35,000 people have made this Des Moines suburb home since its 1917 incorporation date.
At the turn of the 20th century, Urbandale was a "streetcar suburb" that hauled workers to local coal mines; today, most residents travel about 15 minutes to the west side of the metropolitan area for work. But there is much to do within city limits, including exploring 900 acres of parkland and hiking 36 miles of trails. --D.G. Is Urbandale a great town, or what?
