This was a rural, farm-heavy community until about 20 years ago, when young families came in search of a small town with an easy commute to Washington or Baltimore.
Roadside fruit and vegetable stands are still scattered on the outskirts of town, but Eldersburg has been slowly and steadily suburbanized -- it has a new Kohl's and a Home Depot, for example. The village has a few over-55-only communities, but most of the residents are small families. Two-story colonial homes are the prevailing architectural style. --N.A. Is Eldersburg a great town, or what?
