This rural Richmond-area community has a rich Civil War history, which it acknowledges with several battlefield monuments.
In recent years Mechanicsville has slowly suburbanized, and there are even a few townhouse developments, but you can still see the occasional corn field or 20-acre horse farm. Mechanicsville isn't far from the Rappahannock River, and many residents have second homes on the water. In the winter skiing in the Blue Ridge Mountains is popular, and Virginia Beach is two hours away for swimming in the summer. --N.A. Is Mechanicsville a great town, or what?
