This friendly town has a strong Irish flavor; youngsters can learn Gaelic football and cheer on one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the state. Residents hop on the commuter train to New York City right in Pearl River. Schools are strong here, and there’s a shop-lined town square. On the negative side, Pfizer--the town’s biggest employer--is downsizing its operations here, leading to the loss of at least 1,250 jobs by 2014. --N.D.
