Like to golf? You’ll like The Colony, which was created by a developer in the 1970s: One of the top-ranked courses in the state is located right here. Another big amenity: Lewisville Lake, with 23 scenic miles of shoreline. Add in safe streets (the crime rate is at a 20-year low), a long but doable commute to Dallas (it’s 30 miles away), and very good schools, and you understand why this town is one of the fastest growing in the area. --D.B.
(II) Sales tax notes:
Texas has a gross receipts tax that is levied in addition to its 6.25% sales tax. It is called the franchise tax and the rate is 1% (.5% for retailers).
