Want a McBuzz with the fries?
Fast-food chain McDonald's plans to introduce specialty coffee drinks on its menu later this year.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Watch out Starbucks -- McDonald's could be brewing some trouble with plans to introduce its own specialty coffee.

The Oak Brook, Ill.-based No. 1 fast-food chain will begin testing espresso drinks in select markets this summer.

Later this year, the restaurant chain hopes to expand its coffee beverage offerings to a variety of specialty drinks, Bill Whitman, a spokesman for the No. 1 fast-food chain, told CNN/Money.

McDonald's (Research) already sells regular coffee on the menu. Lately, the company has been moving towards upgrading its coffee offerings. On Thursday, McDonald's launched a new premium roast coffee blend available along with breakfast foods like the Egg McMuffin and Sausage McGriddles.

Asked whether McDonald's is trying to go head-to-head with Starbucks, Whitman said that wasn't McDonald's intention.

"We're not like Starbucks. We're offering a unique experience for our customers where they can buy a Big Mac and fries as well an expresso," Whitman said.  Top of page
