NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Ferrari's president Luca di Montezemolo met with Pope Benedict XVI Monday and gave him a check for 950,000 ($1.1 million).

The money was raised from the sale of the 400th Enzo Ferrari, a car specially made to be auctioned for charity.

The top-of-the-line Enzo Ferrari was sold by Sotheby's for more than double the asking price and Montezemolo offered to donate the proceeds from the auction to humanitarian relief.

At the meeting, Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher also gave the Pope a steering wheel with a dedication that read: "The Formula 1 World Champion's steering wheel to His Holiness Benedict XVI, Christianity's driver," according to a statement released by Ferrari.
