Gas prices fall, diesel inches higher
The national average price for regular unleaded slips to $4.067 a gallon, AAA survey shows.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Gas prices have fallen for the third consecutive day this week while diesel prices have risen, according to a daily survey released Wednesday by motorist group AAA.
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell two-tenths of a cent to $4.067 from $4.069 the previous day.
Gas prices hit an all-time high of $4.080 on June 16, according to AAA.
Prices are now about 3% higher than they were last month and are more than 36% higher than year-ago levels.
Retail gas prices are highest in California, where a gallon of gas averages $4.602. Alaska had the second highest average gas price at $4.574 a gallon.
Hawaii has replaced Connecticut as the state with the third highest average gas price. The price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.396 in Hawaii.
The national average price for a gallon of diesel rose one-tenth of a cent to $4.771 from $4.770 the day before.
Meanwhile, crude futures hovered around $137 a barrel in electronic trading on Wednesday.
