The Boxster is an excellent sports car, but it has always lived in the shadow of the Porsche 911. The Boxster Spyder, a lighter and more powerful version of this more affordable sports car, takes the Boxster into the big leagues.

Practicality is sacrificed on the altar of performance purity, however -- the very manually operated cloth top, which is held on with elastic straps, provides even less protection than most cloth tops -- but that will make this car only more appealing to the classic sports car fans of tomorrow.
