Bolingbrook is a one-time farming area where several small towns coalesced into one of Chicago's newest and most distant suburbs. Many of its residents work in the city and commute back to this ethnically diverse, affluent town of about 70,000. Housing remains affordable with some four-bedroom, two-bath homes selling for under $200,000.
Residents prize the slow pace of life here. Bolingbrook calls itself a village and still maintains some of its small-town flavor. There's a lot of open space and the developed tracts often incorporate playgrounds, bike paths and ball fields.
