When the Toyota Prius first appeared in 2000, it gained cult status among Hollywood types and tech execs. But while its green profile was stylish, no one mistook the boxy sedan for a Porsche or an Aston Martin. Enter Henrik Fisker, who has designed cars for Ford, BMW -- and Aston Martin. Fisker saw the potential for a luxury hybrid that would be environmentally clean without sacrificing style or performance. The first Fisker Karma plug-ins, which start at $87,900, will be out next year. Interested? Get in line: 2,500 customers have put deposits down, including several celebrities. No doubt that includes a few Prius owners trading up.
