The Troy, Mich.-based maker of commercial vehicle parts -- once known as ArvinMeritor -- benefited from a recovery in the North American and European commercial truck industry as companies moved to replace or update aging fleets.
Meritor's leadership team was bullish about its growth prospects last fall. In August 2010, the company predicted annual sales growth of more than 20% in Europe for 2011 and 2012. But an increase in the price of steel and other costs caused Meritor to swing to a loss in its most recent quarter and its stock price has been tumbling.
