HP job cuts
  • Job cuts: 30,000

Meg Whitman has presided over a truly dramatic downsizing at Hewlett-Packard.

The once-iconic company has slashed 85,000 jobs since Whitman became CEO in 2011.

That includes up to 30,000 jobs that HP (HPQ) said earlier this month it plans to eliminate. That's more job cuts than at any other U.S. company this year, according to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

The latest round of layoffs are linked to HP's plan to break up into two separate publicly traded companies. They are taking place at HP Enterprise, which is the Whitman-led business that will focus on faster growing areas like cloud computing and cyber security. The other business, known as HP Inc., will sell PCs, printers and slower-growing devices.
