At nearly 310 meters (1,017 feet), the Shard tower is the tallest building in the European Union and offers stunning views across London.

The Middle Eastern state of Qatar owns the tower, which is home to Al Jazeera's studios, the upmarket Shangri-La Hotel and South Hook, a major natural gas importer.

The building is estimated to be worth as much as £2.5 billion ($4 billion).

It costs £25 ($40) for a ticket to visit the top of the tower.
