At $11,000, the Ciclotte is more expensive than a gym membership, but there's no waiting in line for a turn. And it's won awards: not for calories burned but for design.

Italian designer Luca Schieppati is the mind behind this ride, as well as the the Ciclò, his similarly-shaped bicycle that currently sits in a Milan design museum.

On the practical side, the carbon and steel exercise bike includes a touch-screen to select one of 12 resistance levels; an adjustable saddle and handlebars; and a trademark transmission.
