Who says pre-fab homes have to be boring?
Built from six recycled shipping containers, the Quik House offers a customizable living space that can be ordered and assembled in less than six months, according to Quik Build which sells the homes. (Although there is currently a six-month waiting list for the homes).
Buyers can choose a Basic Quik House kit that starts at $119,000 and includes the shipping containers, basic plumbing and electrical supplies, stairs, glass windows and walls. Add-ons, like a stainless steel kitchen package that includes Viking appliances and a fireplace, are extra.
Buyers are also responsible for purchasing the land, securing building permits and getting the home hooked up to local water and sewer lines and the gas and electric grid.
For some, all of that extra work may not be worth it. But the savings is pretty substantial given the amount of space you get.
