As companies face increasing scrutiny over their finances and must adhere to ever-changing financial laws, demand is growing for accountants who can prepare federal, state and local tax returns and/or financial reports. While it may not be glamorous, the gig is also a stepping stone to more lucrative jobs within the accounting world.
How to switch:
While some top employers prefer applicants with a master's degree in accounting, most jobs require just a bachelor's degree in the field. Many staff accountants are hired fresh out of school.
