You’ll provide help and resources for people with emotional and social problems, concentrating in particular areas, such as substance abuse, domestic violence or disabilities. Demand is especially strong for social workers who specialize in the elderly, or who are willing to work in rural areas where it’s difficult to attract qualified staff.
How to switch:
Earning a two-year masters degree in social work, which includes a minimum of 900 hours of supervised field work, is the best route for career changers. Licensing rules vary by state.
