East Lyme, which nestles against the coast of Long Island Sound and faces the Niantic River, is about as quaint as a New England seaside town can be. It has a small downtown, a community beach, and waterfront properties. There are plenty of large employers nearby, including Pfizer and General Dynamics. An Amtrak train runs along the shoreline that can whisk residents to nearby cities. What's more, East Lyme boasts a strong school system that has been nationally recognized. --R.G.
