Nestled in the northwest corner of the state (it’s just 12 miles south of Memphis), this diverse, temperate town has grown considerably in the last few years. It’s easy to see why: Hernando boasts an historic downtown square, a handsome pillared county courthouse (Hernando is the county seat), and excellent health care (Baptist Memorial Hospital, which serves the town, ranks as one of the best health-care providers in the South). --D.B.
