NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Lea Fastow, a former Enron assistant treasurer and wife of the company's former chief financial operator Andrew Fastow, began serving her one-year prison term for her part in the Enron scandal.

Former Enron assistant treasurer Lea Fastow as she entered prison Monday morning.

Fastow, 42, turned herself in at 8:20 a.m. CT (9:20 a.m. ET) at a federal lockup in Houston. She was accompanied by her lawyer, her father Jack Weingarten, and others.

Fastow was wearing a navy pantsuit, which will be exchanged for a prison-issue khaki outfit once she is checked into the facility.

Lea Fastow last year was charged with six felony conspiracy and tax counts by the Justice Department, as officials tried to persuade her husband to cooperate with their investigation into the bankrupt former energy giant.

She was convicted of signing a bogus tax return to help her and her husband hide illegal or ill-gotten income. Andrew Fastow pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years.

He is working with the Enron Task Force and is not expected to begin serving his sentence until after his wife is released, the report said.
