Amazon.com debuts short films
Online retailer unveils movies with product placements as holiday shopping season approaches.
November 9, 2004: 11:14 AM EST

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Amazon.com is giving shoppers another reason to visit its site as the holidays approach.

The world's biggest Internet retailer has launched a short film section of its site with five movies featuring actors Minnie Driver, Daryl Hannah, Chris Noth and Blair Underwood.

"It's a great example of Amazon's relentless commitment to finding new and innovative ways to surprise and delight customers and deliver an unparalleled online experience," Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.

Items available for sale on Amazon.com (Research) have product placements throughout the films and are listed on a page below the movies.

For example, in a film called "Portrait" featuring Minnie Driver, a character appears in a BCBG Max Azria Jacket that can be bought on the site for $318.

The Amazon Theater is sponsored by J.P. Morgan's (Research) Chase unit, which provides an Amazon branded Visa credit card that is also promoted on the site.

"Portrait" is currently running on the site, and will be followed by "Agent Orange," "Do Geese See God," "Tooth Fairy" and "Careful What You Wish For."

Each of the films is scheduled to run for two weeks.  Top of page
