NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Jeep is introducing a longer, taller, boxier sport utility vehicle with three rows of seats at the New York Auto Show Wednesday.

With the Commander, Jeep's first three-row SUV, Jeep has created a more upright, military-themed vehicle than the more rounded Grand Cherokee on which it is based.

"The Jeep Commander is a fresh expression of the essence of Jeep design," said Trevor Creed, head of design for DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group, of which Jeep is a part. "It is the modern, quintessential Jeep."

Under its rugged-looking hood, buyers can get an optional 5.7 liter, 330 horsepower V8 engine. Interior features include tiered stadium-style seating, rear seat skylights and an optional DVD player.
