NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Porsche released the first official photos of its new hard-top sports car Monday.

The 2006 Cayman S has curvaceous rear fenders and an aerodynamic bubble top.

The coupe has an automatically extending rear spoiler, newly styled dual sport tailpipes and fog lamps integrated into the front air intakes.

The Cayman S -- which is priced between the company's 911 Carrera and lower-priced Boxster S models -- is outfitted with an enhanced version of the Boxster's standard six-speed manual transmission. The new version promises quicker and more precise shifting.

The car goes from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, according to Porsche, and is capable of a 171 mph top speed.

In addition to performance, the Cayman S also offers room for a bit more luggage. It has 9.2 cubic feet of storage -- an area twice that of the popular Boxster, which is a convertible.

An optional active suspension system allows the driver to choose between a softer setting for ordinary cruising or firmer settings for more aggressive driving.

The Cayman goes on sale for $58,900 in the United States in mid-January of 2006.
