And now, the phoneless phone booth
Paper says empty wooden cubes and steel cylinders are popping up around the country, providing a quiet space for cell phone users.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - For those uncomfortable muttering "there seems to be an uncomfortable feeling in my..." or "I love you too, mom" during public cell phone calls, solace awaits. The phone booth, once a disappearing element of the American public landscape, is on its way back.
But this time, according to an article in USA Today, there's no phone. The booths, appearing in restaurants, night clubs, movie theaters and gathering spots around the country, are simply a place to go use your cell phone, the paper reports. They're provided as a courtesy for those needing a little privacy, and those wanting a little space from gabby patrons. The booths come in a variety of styles from a variety of different manufacturers, and generally cost between $2,500 and $3,500 each, according to the article. Among them, the paper reports wood paneled models from C.P. Booth, an appropriate choice for a fine dining establishment. Or the steel sound-proof cylinder from Cell Zone. Designed for night clubs, the Cell Zone has a clear door to prevent what the paper referred to as "mischief." __________ |
