Toyota, Nissan recall 570,000 vehicles Toyota SUVs being recalled for loose carpets, Nissans for engine sensors that cause stalls. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Toyota is recalling 368,000 SUVs and Nissan is recalling 201,000 of its cars. The Toyota Highlander and closely-related Lexus RX SUVs are being recalled because clips holding down floor carpeting were improperly installed. If the clips come loose, the carpeting could move and interfere with the action of the vehicles' accelerator pedal. In the worst case, the pedal could become stuck in a partially depressed position.
The vehicles involved are 2004 and 2005 model year Toyota Highlanders and Lexus RX330 SUVs. Some 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Lexus RX400h SUVs are also involved. Nissan is recalling some 2003 model year Altima and Sentra cars equipped with 2.5-liter engines. A sensor inside the engine can be affected by temperature variations, causing the sensor to malfunction. That malfunction can, in some cases, cause the engine to stop running while the vehicle is being driven at low speeds. Related: |
