Sorry, wrong number News Corp.A number listed in the media company's latest proxy filing sends callers to a 'nasty girls' phone-sex line.NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- News Corp. shareholders were in for an unexpected surprise if they called the proxy agent's number listed on its latest filing. The number listed for solicitation agent Georgeson Inc. was answered by an automated woman's voice that said, "Get together with exciting people everywhere," and directed callers to dial a different number sending them to a phone sex service. The second number greeted callers with a woman's voice seductively saying, "Hey sexy guy," and eventually asking for the caller's credit card number for callers interested in speaking to "nasty girls". The Wall Street Journal first reported the mistaken telephone number late Tuesday. "Two numbers have been switched around, it's a typographical error," Andrew Butcher, a News Corp. spokesman told CNNMoney.com. "We have several other numbers people can call to get other information," Butcher said. "We recommend that [investors] don't spend too much time with the number." The company filing in question was related to a deal with Liberty Media (Charts), which needs shareholder approval, in which News Corp. (Charts) would swap out its stake in satellite operator DirecTV (Charts) for Liberty Media's stake in News Corp. So far, Butcher said no investors have called and complained about the incorrect number listed. The number, which has not yet been corrected, appears in both its preliminary proxy filed Feb. 5 and its definitive statement filed March 1. |
