In time-lapse images, Naverus's precise satellite-guided flight paths look like discrete pipelines. The routes pilots follow never vary more than 18 meters - half the wingspan of a Boeing 737 - allowing aircraft controllers to increase the number of incoming flights. Meanwhile, the GPS-guided approach lets pilots land using what they call an "idle-thrust descent." Just before the flight attendant tells you to turn off your iPod, the pilot can throttle back the engines and glide through a long arc toward the runway.
