5 spots for fall foliage
It's that time of year, and the leaves are starting to change. Here are five easy-to-get-to spots with stunning views of nature's handiwork.
But the leaves eventually turn color in this region just as they do elsewhere - and this small town of 1,000 less than two hours north of Atlanta, is a prime mountainous spot for seeing nature's paintbrush at work.
The ideal way to experience it is simply to drive in and around the area, visiting nearby similarly small towns (Blairsville, Young Harris, Hiawassee) or crossing the border into Tennessee (it's less than a half-hour away), especially the historic copper-mining city of Ducktown.
Five waterfalls within Fannin County, all accessible by hiking trails, and the 3,290-acre Lake Blue Ridge also offer good vistas.
Peak of the season: Mid to late October.
