What's onboard: "The service is second to none on Crystal," says Nancy Kelly, president of Kelly Cruises in Oakbrook, Ill. "It's like staying in a Ritz-Carlton." Luxury comes at a cost, but all of the cabins have ocean views, most have private balconies, and tips are included.
You have access to an award-winning spa, golf lessons from PGA pros and lectures on topics such as wine appreciation and art history. Of course, this ship boasts a boldface-name chef - Nobu Matsuhisa - behind one of its five restaurants as well. And the price allows the line to book big-name acts like Joel Grey and Maureen McGovern. Here the ship is an indulgent destination unto itself.
What's to see onshore: With the first two days in Monte Carlo, you'll have ample time to rub shoulders with high rollers at the Grand Casino and check out some of the French Riviera's most lavish villas in Cap Ferrat the next day. Among the off-board activities are wine tasting in Marseille ($196) and a cooking lesson in Rome ($299). You get just a few hours in Barcelona and Sorrento, but you'll have full days in all of the other ports.
Alternatives: You'll also find haute cuisine, topnotch service and spacious staterooms aboard lines like Cunard, Seabourn and Sea Cloud.
