These engines use two turbochargers and sophisticated, computer-controlled fuel injection to produce the power you'd expect from a V8 engine. Unlike many turbocharged engines, these don't require expensive "premium" fuel.
This engine will also be available on the Ford Taurus SHO, Ford Flex and Lincoln MKS.
Final fuel economy figures aren't available yet, but it should be similar to that of other full-sized V6-powered crossover SUVs while providing more power.
In the future, you can expect to see four cylinder EcoBoost giving drivers the feel of a V6.
One downside of turbocharging is that it dampens engine sound, so drivers don't get the aural feedback they're used to when stomping on the gas. Ford solves that problem with a device called a symposer that's designed to amplify that full-throttle rumble.
