Combined MPG: 20
Trade-in value: $2,300
Verdict: Can't crush it
You might think a nice big, comfy car like the Park Avenue would be just the sort of gas hog a "Cash for Clunkers" program was designed to take off America's roads. In this case, however, big and comfy doesn't mean thirsty. That's because the Park Avenue is pulled along, in a fairly leisurely manner, by a 3.8-liter V6 engine. That gives it an combined city and highway fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon.
That means it doesn't qualify for a rebate under the program. Too bad, because $4,500 would be quite a bit more than you'd get for it otherwise. You might get something close to $4,500 if you sell it yourself, though.
