In the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, a 3.8-liter V6 is the high-performance option. For those who don't feel the need to to summon 306 horsepower, the base Genesis coupe comes with a turbocharged 4-cylinder that can deliver 210.
The V6 doesn't use turbochargers or superchargers to gain power but something called Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, similar to the system to be used on Ford's engine, and a Variable Intake System.
The Variable Intake System actually changes the length of the pipes that bring air to cylinders. A longer length of pipe is actually more efficient at lower engine speeds. Using valves to switch between two different intake lengths, the engine's intake plumbing can be optimized to fit the needs of the moment. Again, changing the engine slightly to match changing requirements means more power when needed and less fuel used.
