This is another system, for more closely controlling how the engine works, optimizing its performance and efficiency on a moment-by-moment basis. The timing, and even the size, of the engines valve openings can controlled to the fraction of a second.
Another component tapped by Nissan's engineers is the engine control computer. Actually, that's something that's a factor in every modern car. In this case, the engine's computer controller is programmed to maximize response and performance.
Much of the added power the Nismo Z has, compared to a V-6 Camaro or Mustang, is simply a matter of displacement, the total size of the engine's cylinders. They may all have the same number of cylinders but the Z's are a little bigger, totaling 3.7 liters in all. The old saying "There is no replacement for displacement" may no longer be entirely true, but displacement still helps.
