Can a vegetarian be a food critic? Melissa Zonne thinks so: As a writer for L.A.'s "Hungry? City Guides," the longtime vegetarian says she brings a "fresh perspective" to her reviews.
A University of Southern California public relations major, Zonne interns with "Hungry? City Guides" two days a week, reviewing restaurants -- including her favorite L.A. spot, Don Antonio's -- tweeting recommendations to readers, and conducting market research.
Zonne targets places "locals know about and locals love" in what she calls the "Hungry? City Guides" tradition, "not just the posh overrated places that are in every other review."
But food isn't Zonne's only passion; she also interns two days a week at TotalBeauty.com, writing product reviews and beauty tips for the beauty blog -- and cruising the beauty closet (shown). This post, unlike her guidebook role, is paid. One of her favorite assignments: "Biggest Beauty Blunders of (Almost) All Time," featuring, among others, Britney Spears's shaved head and Julia Roberts's unshaved armpits.
