My wife and I save big bucks now whenever we cook. We make two extra meals and then we each bring a meal for lunch at work. Otherwise we have to buy lunch, which would cost us about $8 or more each if we order out, or about $6 each if we get food from the cafeteria at work. The extra portions cost us under $2 each and are much healthier than eating in our hospital cafeteria!
On top of that, we also pack breakfast which consists of yogurt, a banana, strawberries, cereal and milk (which we pour into an empty small reusable glass seltzer bottle!) Total cost of bringing breakfast is about $1.40 compared to paying $3.99 for the typical bacon & eggs or pancakes, and it's much healthier, too.
