Cut your spending by $500 a month
In today's tight economy, who doesn't want to free up some cash? Trim the fat but not the fun from your budget - here's how.
In fact, maybe you shouldn't even look. There's a reason retailers lay out sweaters and shirts on tables like hors d'oeuvres: They know you won't be able to resist touching them, and that if you touch them, you may not be able to resist buying them. Why? A study by marketing professors Joann Peck (University of Wisconsin-- Madison) and Suzanne Shu (UCLA) suggests that when you put your hands on an object - or even stare at it too long in a store window - it increases your psychological sense of ownership. That, in turn, makes it harder for you to resist buying it.
