The bill instructs utilities to start planning for a 'smart' utility grid and infrastructure for electric cars. It also provides funding in excess of $20 billion for electric cars.
While you may not see solar car ports going up at Wal-Mart right away, but one of the bill's drafters said to expect utility workers at your door installing smart meters in the next few years, as well as new high-voltage utility lines being constructed around the country.
