Walter Morrison canceled a summer vacation he has taken annually for six years.
Last year, paying $4.75 for a gallon for gas was horrible, and my wife and I cursed the pump when we did. We could afford to do it then, however, because we both worked hard.
But those high gas prices caused another problem: They started the economic recession that we're in. And my wife was one of the first to get laid off.
Now, without her salary, life is a lot harder.
After my wife lost her job, eating out was more of a luxury, but we still did it once or twice a month. Now, it's gone entirely because an extra $100 a week has to come from somewhere to pay for the rising costs of my daily commute.
So, this year, we've learned. Because of high gas prices, we just canceled our summer trip to the Jersey Shore -- something I've done for the last six summers. In fact, there will be no summer vacation this year. Burgers on the grill is about it. Thank you, gas prices!
