At an 'I don't know' stage

Out of work for: 8 months
I have been laid off since April of this year from Caterpillar, Inc. and as of Dec. 1st, [my status] went from being temporarily unemployed to permanently unemployed so now I do not have medical benefits.
I changed my career focus back to secretarial jobs because I had many years of experience, so I revamped my résumé for that since the manufacturing business is very slow right now. But I was still not getting any bites. I tried to go the temp agency route and they don't have any jobs either. I have been applying, looking in the paper. I joined Twitter. I've done it all. I'm beginning to think it's my age -- I'm 51. I'm hoping eventually something is going to open up. I'm at an "I don't know" stage right now but I've got to do something.
