Larry Villella started ADK in 1997 to do one thing: make a microphone that marries state-of-the-art technology with a velvety sound. (Think Miles Davis's Kind of Blue or John Coltrane's Ballads.) "Everybody wants a vintage mic," says Villella. "Then they realize the tone is delightful but the technology is dreadful."
Now that he has fixed age-old problems like background hiss, ADK is preferred by musicians like Lenny Kravitz and Tony Bennett who want a high-performance mic with old-school soul.
