Former chief executive of Enron Corp
Before Enron imploded in a massive accounting scandal, it was one of the country's leading natural gas and electricity companies, and a massive commodities trading firm.
Lay met with the Energy Task Force in February 2001, about a week after handing the chief executive spot to Jeffrey Skilling (Lay would return as CEO that August) and about 10 months before Enron filed for bankruptcy.
Lay had long been close with the Bush administration. He was mentioned as a possible Treasury Secretary candidate.
