But Gekko isn't repentant for long. Without giving too much away, we'll just say the Gekko of old returns. In the original iWall Street, Mirojnick exaggerated financiers' style, using padded shoulders and contrasting collars. In the sequel, she wanted the suits lighter and sculpted.
New York tailor Leonard Logsdail created all the main characters' suits in the sequel. "We wanted to get away from the big broad shoulders of the first Wall Street," says Logsdail, 59, who has tailored on Savile Row and in New York for four decades. "The focus was a little more on the tailoring than the fabric itself. This time it's sculpted to the body using lightweight fabrics."
For Gekko, Logsdail fitted Michael Douglas with shoulders a bit wider than needed to create the illusion of a stronger shape. Near the end of the movie, Gekko wears a weaved wool, single-breasted blue power suit with one button and peaked lapels.
