It's not easy turning a successful cardiothoracic surgeon into a daytime television star, but if there's one person who can do it, it's obviously Oprah.
Dr. Mehmet Oz first appeared as a health expert on Oprah's show in 2004 -- that same year, Oprah returned the favor and showed up as a guest on his show at the time, Second Opinion with Dr. Oz on the Discovery network.
That show didn't last, but it was only the beginning of Oz's small screen success. After more than 50 appearances on Oprah's show, Oz was spun off on his own by the daytime queen. Harpo Productions launched The Dr. Oz Show last year. According to Nielsen, it reaches 3.2 million viewers.
Now known as "America's doctor," Oz also hosts a daily show on Oprah's Sirius radio channel. He's written several health and diet books, and he pens columns for O, AARP Magazine, Esquire and Time.
