If your wife stays on the job just a few more years, you may be able to put off tapping your savings or at least draw down at a slower rate; you may retain access to health insurance before you or your wife is eligible for Medicare; and you and your spouse may be able to postpone claiming Social Security, which will result in higher benefits down the road.
