Filters on the 53rd floor's intake pipes cast out 95% of particulate matter (aka junk) from the outside air, claims Winston, via carefully selected screens on the pipes. Inside the offices, meters detect the concentration of carbon dioxide and fiddle accordingly with the vents.
"The amount of outside air can be reset depending on the amount of carbon dioxide in the space," notes Appel. He adds: "One of the larger moves in terms of productivity and creating a better office is more clean air."
