Zynga is barely two years old, but the company's games have become some of the most ubiquitous apps on Facebook. Between FarmVille, FishVille and other -Villes -- not to mention Mafia Wars and a pirate game -- few Facebook users can escape seeing Zynga apps on their newsfeed.
The company's most popular game, FarmVille, allows users to grow crops and raise animals in hopes of expanding their virtual farm. Players pay for some of the games' virtual goods. Zynga declined to comment on its revenue, but with more than 200 million people playing with its toys each month, it's a safe bet Zynga is raking in cash. Venture capitalists have plowed more than $400 million into the company, according to Dow Jones Venture Source.
Just how big is Zynga's empire? Here's a fun stat: FarmVille includes 30 million virtual farms. There are only 2 million real farms in the U.S.
