Like the car itself, the Equus' engine is relatively modest compared to the way over-the-top Mulsanne. This one is a 4.6-liter V8 that produces 385 horsepower and 333 foot-pounds of torque. The Equus engine produces its maximum pulling power at 3,500 rpm instead of under 1,800 as in the Mulsanne.
Still, the performance is remarkable. It drives nicely around town and at low speeds. Even better, perhaps, than the Mulsanne which allowed road imperfections to intrude more than they should in a car of its class. (Those optional 21-inch wheels and performance tires probably didn't help.)
Press the "Sport" button and the Equus takes off readily, responds quickly and handles really nicely in the turns, proving itself a capable performance car.
