Hoping to appeal to younger buyers, Ford yanked the backseat from the compact Ford Escort/Mercury Lynx and grafted on a two-door body shell to create these curious cars. Awkward and underpowered, they didn't fool many knowledgeable buyers. The LN7 died within a few years; the EXP was eventually crowded out of Ford's lineup by the unfortunately named Probe.
